This is a story that is hard to read but yet important to read. As a memoir it gives us a glimpse into the world of young people on the streets of Melbourne in the 1980's and it is a brutal world. It is a time of police brutality and little to no understanding of mental health issues. At the same time it is a also a look at the family dynamics of the times as they struggle to come to terms with Danica. As a North American, with limited knowledge of Australia in the 1980's, I was truly drawn into the culture of both the city and the suburbs as I compared it to my own life at that time. I received this book as part of a Goodreads giveaway and have been truly blessed to read the story of Danica.
